Ansalonian Pie
By Kevin James Kage and Beth Long
A long, long time ago,
I can still remember how the newsgroup used to make me smile....
I knew that if I wrote one post, that I wouldn't be flamed to toast.
And maybe, I'd be safe for a while.
And many posters made me giggle...with every thread a.f.dl'd deliver.
Potted plants on the doorstep. I couldn't go one more step.
I can't remember if I cried, when I read about whether Raist's a guy,
But something touched me deep inside the day (the day!) the magic
died...
And they were singing...
CHORUS
"Bye, bye, old Ansalon sky.
Asked the clerics for help but the gods went bye-bye.
And the oldest mages mixing guano and rye, whisperin',
"This'll be the day that we die...this'll be the day that we
die...."
Did you write the books of lore?
And did you have faith in Paladine before?
If Crysania told you so.
Now do you believe in the ancient gods
Can magic help you even the odds and
Can you freeze water into snow?
Oh I know that you're in love with her
By the way you stared at her blue armor.
You threw your swords aside,
What else is there to hide?
I was a lonely noble elven maid
With an ivy ring and a vow we'd made,
But I knew that your thoughts had strayed
The day the magic died.
And they were singing....
(Chorus)
Now a new age.... we are on our own
We've seen no trace of that old gray stone.
But that's not how it was before
When Raistlin fought with the old Dark Queen
With a cleric who helped him on the scene,
And the strength of love his brother bore.
And while the Kingpriest was still around
The gods hurled a fiery mountain down
And Istar burned and sank
Who did they have to thank?
And while Astinus wrote the logs of Krynn
And Bertrem let no strangers in.
A darker time would now begin
The day the magic died.
We started singing.....
(CHORUS)
The High God came in a Summer Flame
The Dragonarmies at war again
Kalaman and closing fast.....
Defeated the Clerist's Tower at last
And Palin tried everything he could cast
With Raistlin on the sidelines magicless.....
Oh the summer air was hot and wet
As Steel Brightblade would not forget
This place his father died.
Now Tanis lay at his side
And Paladine then took the field
The God of All refused to yield
Do you recall what Tas revealed
The day the magic died.
They started singing...
(CHORUS)
And there they were all where it was begun
Two Dragonarmies fought as one
With no time left to war again
So come on Tas be nimble, Tas be good
Tas catch a drop of that High God's blood.
Cause the Greygem will spell the High God's end
And as I watched them wage their war
Wishing for spells I had before
No dragon good or ill,
Could break that high god's will.
And as the flames crept high to feed on Krynn
The drop of blood at last fell in
And we knew that at last we'd win,
The day the magic died.
And we were singing...
(CHORUS)
I met a priestess in Kalaman
And I asked where all the gods had gone
She just smiled and turned away....
I went down to the magic towers
Where I had seen the wizard's powers
But the mage the said their powers all had strayed....
And in the streets the kender cried
For Uncle Tasslehoff had died
But not a spell would waken,
The three moons had been taken.
And the three gods that had always been
Paladine, Takhisis and Gilean.
Have gone beyond, ne'er to be seen....
The day the magic died
So, bye bye old Ansalon sky
Asked the clerics for help but the gods went bye-bye.
The oldest mages mixing guano and rye, whisperin'
"This'll be the day that we die.... This'll be the day that we die."
