Dragons of a Lost Cause
For those of you who are worried, this editorial contains no spoilers. Many of our articles do, however, and they have been labeled as such.
Well, what can be said that isn't perfectly obvious? The latest book is out, the battle lines have been drawn, and the wars are being waged. Actually, to be honest, the outcry against this book has been fairly minimal. Compared to the outpouring of negativity that has followed many of the recent DL novels, including Dragons of a Fallen Sun, the negativity over Lost Star is eerily subdued.
Why? Well, for one thing, it seems to me that most of us were expecting this sort of thing. The One God's identity has been argued for more than a year, and I believe DL fans covered every possible contingency in that regard. It could be that the shock of all those possible gods simply wore off before this book hit the shelves. It could also be that many fans are sighing in relief and saying to themselves, "Well, at least it wasn't ___________."
It's possible too that some fans are ready to throw in the towel. I certainly hope this isn't the case. After all, we've yet to see the end of the War of Souls, and even if it ends as predictably as some envision, there will be a lot of space to explore.
So this isn't a Lost Cause as far as I'm concerned, but it is another change. Change is not a bad thing, but it takes some getting used to. Some people will disagree, and they're welcome to their opinions. I for one will be eagerly awaiting Dragons of a Vanished Moon.
