The Last Temptation of Lady Raist
I just picked up Dragons of a Lost Star on Friday night. The strange thing is, that was the highest point of my Friday evening. And even picking up the book didn't seem like a great achievement.
I originally didn't want to buy this in a hardcover, since there's quite a few other things I can spend my money on right now. I wouldn't have bothered with the hardcover except that I had decided to buy Fallen Sun in hardcover. Though I'll admit, the cover art looks amazing. I'm still not too enthused.
My un-enthusiasm (is that even a word?) stems from DoaFS. While I enjoyed Fallen Sun, I have this foreboding sense of dread from several events that occurred in said book. I'm afraid these wild and crazy thoughts are going to prove true in the second, which means I'll probably throw myself from the top of this building and plummet to my death 12 stories down. (Have no fear, I'll put my entire DL collection up for auction on Ebay first, if that's the case.)
My drive to read the book is further dampened by lack of consideration and cluelessness of some people on certain unnamed public forums, in which I stumbled upon a major plotline spoiler. It was severe enough for me to want to commit the above flying act. I was doubly upset because
A) the spoiler was something I was wondering about for the longest time
and
B) I was kind of annoyed at what the spoiler actually was, since it did little to assuage my fears grounded in the Fallen Sun plotline.
So there sits Dragons of a Lost Star sitting lonely on my shelf, tempting me. I didn't even file it with the rest of the books and label it "Books to Read in the Next 6 Months". It's actually getting consideration as the next book I'll read. But I can honestly say... It's not because of enthusiasm... more likely it's to avoid having more of the book spoiled for me, and driving me deeper into a depression.
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I
