Once A Week Ain't So Bad
We had a special treat at DLU this week. Mr. Kevin James Kage, Dragonlance writer and bard approached us with something we honestly didn't expect: an offer to do some regularly appearing content. Now, we like content, and we especially like content that we can continue to post, week after week. Especially when we don't have to do any of the work ourselves.
So when the bard approached us with the first few strips of Dalamar the Dork, and said "so what do you think?" we tied him to a chair and forced him to keep doing them. He's assured us that he doesn't handle torture very well, and given sufficient application of hot irons to the soles of his feet, we're certain he'll be able to provide one comic a week. Sure he may never walk again, but there are some prices that have to be paid.
This got me thinking though. I'm a big fan of webcomics like Sluggy Freelance, Real Life, and MegaTokyo, and one of the things that always impressed me was their professionalism. Sure, now and again the artists go on vacation, get sick, or have personal days, but somehow they manage to stick to it and provide laughs day after day.
I admire that. It wasn't too long ago that I was burning out from the stress of maintaining this website, and I actually sent in a letter of resignation. Fortunately, my fellow Raistlins knew just how deluded I was and refused to let me resign. I'm glad they did, and I'm glad Mr. Kage approached us with his comics. Suddenly I feel more charged than ever, and I'm ready to face this website with renewed vigor.
If cartoonists like Pete Abrams can put up a comic on a daily basis, then surely we can update this site once a week without fail, right? So from here on in, no more days off. No more excuses. If Kevin James Kage can commit himself to our site, then so can we.
And thanks all of you for reading Dragonlance Underground. We can only hope to get better with time.
