What the <CENSORED>?

By Lady Raist

Certain events this week have led to me wanting to write the editorial for this update. Given my mood, it might not the best idea on this side of Krynn, but I'm going to give it a run for it's money.

cen·sor (snsr)
n.

  1. A person authorized to examine books, films, or other material and to remove or suppress what is considered morally, politically, or otherwise objectionable.
  2. An official, as in the armed forces, who examines personal mail and official dispatches to remove information considered secret or a risk to security.
  3. One that condemns or censures.

Personally, I hate censorship. But I've realized over the years that there's a time and place for everything, including the censorship of material that can offend or inflame people within certain categories and groups. Also, the majority of society believes in the censorship of this type of material to protect people and to appeal to the general views of the society in which we live. In order to function effectively, everyone has to follow these rules, or risk ostracizing themselves from the majority.

What's my point you ask?

My point is, we here at Dragonlance Underground are pushing the limits of censorship about the world of Krynn, but we still have to follow guidelines. As the loving benefactors we are, we pass these suggestions onto you, our viewers, and we like to think everyone out there loves us so much, they print out these words of wisdom and paste them all over their computer area and read them daily, humming them like a mantra. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case, as evidenced by events this past week that I had to deal with. I won't elaborate my dear readers, since the situation has been dealt with and there's no sense in beating a dead horse.

Why do we have to enforce these rules? Because for every person that breaks the rules of DLU, it breaks the Terms of Service of the provider we have our page hosted on. "What does that mean Lady Raist?" you ask me. This means we have the obligation to keep our site free of offensive material; material that does not appeal to the sense of the man on the Clapham Omnibus... the opinions of the everyday, common and reasonable person. What is offensive to them is offensive to us and other webmasters as well. And this means that the entire existence of our site is put into jeopardy if just one complaint to the web host is made. We could have everything removed, leaving you without entertainment and witticisms and us without the constant demand of updates, over-use of our limited brain power, and too much work on the weekends. (Hey! Waitaminute!)

Seriously though people. We know you love us and would be devastated to see us shut down. I know I'd be lost without the constant stress. We try to do our best and maybe sometimes we fall short of that goal, but then again, we're only human.

**SMACK**

Ack! Sorry big guy. No! We're not human! Gods! That's what we are! Powerful omnipotent beings! Therefore we make no mistakes!

Ok, I'm done the ego trip and the slight rant of insanity for now. Back to the point at hand. Rules. We have them, they're there for a reason. Not to placate our false sense of security or give us that feeling of "W3 r00L U'r3 WOr1D" (get out of here R4i5t1in! This is MY editorial!) It's to protect us and give you, our dear fans, something to visit, day after day, to love and enjoy and become addicted to, much like coffee. Speaking of which, I do believe I'm out of my bean drink, so I'll leave you with those thoughts of the day.
