Who Are We
It's amusing to see the posts and speculations about the identities of the renowned Dragonlance Underground Raistlins. Have some people made successful guesses? Have some made speculations so off in the realm of fantasy, even Rabe haters would believe her stories over those hypotheses? I can't say. Actually, I'm not going to say. Cause no one's allowed to know.
(And I'm sure there some sort of non-disclosure clause in my contract somewhere... something about death, dismemberment, and 2 weeks locked in a closet with multiple kender while having the "Top 10 Worst Dragonlance Novels" piped through speakers. While death and dismemberment doesn't concern me much, the kender threat most definitely does, and I don't even want to imagine having to be forced to hear some of those books again.)
Why are there people delving into our identities? Have we created such a stir that people want to bomb our house and steal our pets? Or is it that we do such an amazing job, people want to heap accolades at our feet and claim we are the saviors of Dragonlance? Nah. I think it's cause people can't stand to not be in on the secret.
People have an innate desire to dig up the dirt on others. We revel in knowing something others don't and laugh behind our books at those who are left in the dark. Like the identity of the One God, we guess, speculate and develop our theories and then once we know, we dangle that knowledge like a carrot in front of other's noses.
But back to the point at hand. Who are we? We are an enigma wrapped in a mystery, shrouded in the dark. Or something like that.
An interesting point we've observed is the general public seems to think we (the people behind the site) are the Raistlins. Here's a hint for people... we're not. The Raistlins you read are characters. We play the parts of these characters. Ah, am I going to make it that easy for you? No. Like an actor in a movie, we play the roles of these Raistlins, but at the same time, our personalities are projected onto each character. How much or how little? That's something I won't hint at. Is Niltsiar a florist? Does R4i5t1in hack computers in his spare time? Is Raist666 really as nasty as he sounds? Who knows?
Will someone truly find out who we are? If so, will they tell the world and destroy our anonymity? Will we ever reveal ourselves? Probably not. We're the ones hiding behind our books (or computer screens) and snickering at the world and the speculations. We feel the way some authors probably did when reading speculations of the One God. It's a powerful feeling.
Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.
