As the World Falls Down

I suppose the following should be added to our Dragonlance purity test:

Have you ever:
-Drawn parallels between real world historical events and Krynnish events?

You know you're a Dragonlance freak when you're comparing the Taliban to the Knights of Takhisis, and when you're recalling past Dragonlance discussions about whether sentient beings (say, dark paladins) would do evil if they knew they were doing evil. Who ever knew that past discussions on a fantasy series could provide food for thought during modern-day events? Still, it seems politically incorrect, naive or even wrong, to mix musings on fantasy with real-world tragedies.

More impurity points if you were wondering what the Krynnish equivalent of the Sept. 11 tragedy would be, and if you once thought about the inn collapsing on half the Companions in Tarsis.

You wonder if you need a reality check. You wonder if you're reading too much fantasy and not enough world news. You wonder if it's still right to read trivial imaginative fantasy in the face of unimaginable real-world troubles.

Hell if we know.

But hey, we're back. With help from a few dinos.

It's going to be hard keeping our minds on fantasy and humor as the world enters global recession, uncertainty and paranoia, but we'll try. Even as the title of Dragonlance's latest offering, The Search for Magic, seems cruelly ironic as we look at our messed up worlds, both real and Krynnish.

Maybe we'll find something if we look search hard enough.

And while I'm up here on the soapbox, could you guys send us more stuff?
