The DL Authors' Reference Guide to Creating a New Character

Ever wondered what are the references authors use to create a new character in DL novels?

Well, your humble servant, I, one day found the back door of T$R's offices having only three locks on them, so since the place was apparently open for tourist visits at 3:00 am in the morning, I decided to explore the place. It was only 3 days later that I found sensitive documents that mysteriously found its way into my pouches! In the 10 documents I found, one of them is the "Reference tables to create a stantard new character-DL management norms"

Well, here it is, ladies and gents for your eyes only...

Reference tables to create a standard new character - DL management norms

Table One: Basic Name Finding
(Use a 12 sided dice)
RollBasic Name
1 Flint
2 Tas
3 Kitiara
4 Tanis
5 Sturm
6 Riverwind
7 Goldmoon
8 Caramon
9 Raistlin
10 Lauranna, Tika (choose at your discretion)
11 Choose a name of a HotL-related (or potentially related) character that already exist (Palin, Usha, etc.)
12 Choose one of Krynn's geographical names

 

Table 2: Your new name's modification.
(Use a 4 sided dice)
RollName Modification
1 Change One to two letters of the name only (When having this result, you MUST find an explanation to its likeness to the original name. Our suggestion is to say that "It is 'in his honor' that we named our son...")
ex.: Palin -----> Tanin
2 Keep the beginning letters of the name. Leave it that way.
ex.: Gilthanas -----> Gilthas
(An explanation like the above-mentionned should be required if the author sees fit)
3 Keep the beginning letters of the name. Add other letters at the end of the name.
ex.: Silvanesti -----> Silvanoshei
4 Keep the END of the name, and change the beginning.
ex.: Raistlin -----> Palin, Ulin, Tanin, etc.

 

Table 3: Giving a background to your new Character

**Note: It is TSR's policy to profit from every novels written in the Dragonlance setting. Therefore, we created this table to be used to cut back on the time it takes to create an original background for your characters. To keep making profits from the dragonlance setting's novel line, we shortened the deadlines for you to write your novel.

(Use a 10 sided dice)
X = Your new character's name

1 X is the son/daughter of (Roll Table 1. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result)
2 X is the illegitimate son/daughter of (Roll Table 1. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result)
3 X is the father/mother of (Roll Table 1. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result) but he/she doesn't know it
4 X is the nephew/niece of (Roll Table 1. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result)
5 X is the cousin of (Roll Table 1. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result)
6 X is a dragon that must act and have dragon attributes showing through his humanoid form. If your novel takes place before the WotL, please make sure that no one knows that he's in fact a dragon.
7 X is an avatar of Takhisis trying to take over the world.
8 X is the father's cousin's wife of the uncle of (Roll Table 1. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result)
9 X is the descendant of either Huma, Kaz, or Magius
10 X is the secret child of (Roll Table 1 twice for results. Reroll in case of a 11 or 12 result)
11 Create your own background for the character.
