The War of the Worlds

This is a true conversation. Only the names have been changed to protect the idiots...

I have always been a big Dragonlance fan. Not everyone in my gaming group was however. One in particular was an all out Forgotten Realms fanatic. We used to argue all the time about which campaign world was better. I think for the purpose of this I will refer to him as 'Elminster.' Anyhow, Elminster and I would go on and on about this—sometimes coming close to blows over the disagreement, but almost always ruining that night's game. Obviously, the rest of the group became agitated quickly. Finally, our DM decided that we should have a debate on the matter with himself as the moderator. This was fine for both of us because he was in love with Dark Sun. We will refer to our impartial judge as 'Moron' for the duration (hehehe). With Elminster and I both agreeing on the judge's word to be final we went to it. Oh yes, I should introduce myself.. I will refer to myself as..... Raistlin.

Round One: Diversity

Moron: Diversity is an extremely important part of any campaign world. What makes your world the most diverse?

Raistlin: Easy. Dragonlance has a full history and a very diverse population of societies. There are many races that appear nowhere outside of Krynn and Ansalon itself has so many different cultures it's hard to keep up with them all.

Elminster: Toril's map has had to be expanded several times. We also have more than two continents on our world. We have an oriental setting and a Persian setting. Forgotten Realms has also had twice as much referance material printed on it's societies than any other campaign world.

Raistlin: Damn...

Moron: Point and case. Round One's winner is Forgotten Realms

Round Two: The Races

Moron: Each world has it's own personal races. Make a case for yours.

Raistlin: Easy! The Minotaurs as a race are incredible. Not like their brainless Forgotten Realms counterparts. Tinker Gnomes always offer not only a playing challenge but always a good bit of comical relief. The ancient Ogre Irda... a lost people with mysterious powers... The Scions, Bakali, Huldrefolk? And last but not least we have k-

Elminster: Oh god, he's going to mention Kender.

Raistlin: Darn right. Kender beat the hell out of stupid halfling who as a race would rather stay at home in front of a fire.

Moron: Elminster? What does Forgotten Realms have?

Elminster: All I have to say is Forgotten Realms has no Kender.

Moron: I'd like to give it to Elminster, but his proof really sucks. Point goes to Dragonlance.

Round Three: The Gods

Moron: Deities. You love 'em, you hate 'em, but they are there.

Elminster: One of the greatest plotlines. All the gods lose their jobs and become people. What opportunities! Normal people like Cyric get a chance to become gods. Now that is cool..

Raistlin: Well Raistlin became a god. Not to mention, Dragonlance has a more stable roster of gods. They don't just change from time to time. Also, there are fewer gods which would mean that each individual god has more power on average.

Elminster: Possibly, but Forgotten Realms' gods are much cooler. Tyr is missing a bunch of body parts, and what about Moander?

Raistlin: The god of refuse and waste? Dude, Moander rocks....

Moron: Point ceded. Round goes to Forgotten Realms.

Round Four: The Bad Guys

Moron: Central to the story is both hero and villan. Who has the best bad guys?

Elminster: It's over. Forgotten Realms has the Zentrim and the Red Mages of Thay. Just to name a couple of bad asses.

Raistlin: Dragonlance has Lord Soth.

Elminster: Yeah, so.

Raistlin: "Die"

Moron: Hehehehe. I like that. Point goes to Dragonlance.

Round Five: The Mages

Moron: I don't need to explain this. Go.

Elminster: Elminster is ancient and powerful. He's a central mystery to the whole world. He's clever, funny, powerful, mysterious... What more can you ask for in a figurehead?

Raistlin: Perhaps him nat talking in that stupid "Ye olde" accent?

Elminster: Ye can bite me.

Raistlin: Well Raistlin is far superior. His character is much better. His life is not a mystery from everyone, although he wishes it was. He's a tragic character who has given everything he values for the cause of magic and still has recieved little to nothing for his sacrifice. The fact that he is ambitious and greedy makes him seem more human, like a real person, and helps you identify with him. He's not a "good guy" and proves that it's not always the noble and valiant who wins in the end, but the one who is most desperate to achieve his goal.

Elminster: Dude... That was almost deep....

Raistlin: Also, Dalamar could whoop Lhao's butt any day of the week.

Moron: Round goes to Dragonlance. And Dragonlance wins as the best overall, three to two.

So that was how I proved to them that Dragonlance was best. That was the end of it. I was so happy. Our DM was so moved by the whole thing about Raistlin's sacrifice that he "allowed" me to make a sacrifice of my wallet to pay for pizza, sodas and munchies for the whole group that night.
